Behind the Scenes
Since learning of Dr. Jones a decade ago, Director Scott A. Magie
has dreamed of capturing his legacy on film. When The Piney
Woods School prepared a Centennial Celebration in 2009, the
wait was over.
The May morning dawned like any other in the piney woods of
Mississippi . . . with hazy sun and a slight breeze. But then the
cast and crew descended on the campus of The Piney Woods
School with trailers of cameras, lights, green-screens, costumes
and boom mics. Years of research and months of preparation
were about to culminate in one very long -- but amazing -- week
of film production.
The finished project is a result of the enthusiasm, dedication and
talents of The Piney Woods School; The Flipbook Moving Picture
Company of East Lansing, MI; Distant Lands Entertainment of
Greenville, MS; The Lighthouse Film Company of Wilmington,
NC; and the generosity of the Jessie Ball duPont Fund.
